HALLMARK JEWELLERY
Government of India took the cognizance and understood the necessity of protecting the public in its purchases of gold jewellery specially with regard to standards of fineness and the prevention of adulteration, be it deliberate or accidental. The principle objectives of the Hallmarking Scheme are to protect the public against the fraud of adulteration and to oblige manufacturers to maintain legal standards of fineness.
“Hallmarking is the accurate determination and official recording of the proportionate contents of precious metal in jewellery. Hallmarks are thus official marks used in many countries as a guarantee of purity or fineness of gold jewellery”. -BIS definition
- Hallmarking guarantees a piece of Jewellery for its actual purity and originality.
- You can analyse its true financial potential as a form of investment and help you calculate its value more accurately. For e.g. a non hallmarked Jewellery will lose it’s value by around 10% – 20% whereas a Hallmarked Jewellery will not.

KDM Jewellery is not HallMark Jewellery
KDM :- (Cadmium) Jewelry 916 is the purity of the gold. In conventional method during manufacture of jewels the crafted jewel pieces are soldered together using an alloy, thus reducing the purity of gold. To maintain the purity of gold in the manufacture of gold jewels the crafted jewels pieces are soldered using a chemical KDM. For exchange of jewelry with KDM process you get gold to gold price with out wastage for its purity.
KDM: – Gold Jewelry from some places is / was marked with a KDM Stamp which means that the Jewelry was soldered with Cadmium. Cadmium called ‘Kadium’ in some places and marked KDM was traditionally used in soldering of gold jewelry for its good properties of liquidity and melting at lower temperatures, which is not the case any more as Cadmium is known to create toxic fumes when melted, which are very dangerous to health, over a period of time and may be harmful to humans, making the gold jewelry, some countries have banned the use of Cadmium from use, from workshops. Jewelers in many parts of the world now use gold solders, which are free from Cadmium. Please note that the wearer of the gold jewelry is not harmed, this issue only concerns the manufacturing process. Also note that using any type of gold solder either KDM (Cadmium) or other gold solder, to make the jewelry does not guarantee the purity of gold, as the purity is a representation of the percentage of gold in any metal.
